You are in Italy and there are many things to do and many places to visit. If you are on your way to Florence or staying near Pisa (places like Cinque Terre, La Spezia, etc.) This guide is for you!

Things you should know before going to Pisa

Many routes going from North to South (example, Milan to Florence), stop in Pisa, Italy. Pisa is a very small and pretty city. All you can do there is visit the Piazza del Duomo of Pisa, which is where the leaning tower of Pisa is.

What to do and how many days? (More like hours, maybe minutes)

Like we mentioned before, Pisa is small. There are some restaurants and shops, but that´s about it. In the central station, you can drop off your bags all day for 5 EUROS (not that you would need it all day). At the central station, you can also find tickets to grab the bus that takes you to Piazza del Duomo of Pisa. Here is where it gets tricky, and why we keep saying you will not need a full day to visit this location. The tickets for the bus transportation cost around 1.50 Euro and it allows you to hop on and off for 70 minutes; 70 minutes is enough time to go to the location, take pictures, hang out for a few minutes and go back to the central station. If you would like to stay, go inside the leaning tower or take a tour of the Duomo or the museums around, a maximum of 4 hours should be more than enough.

How to arrive to the leaning tower of Pisa

After you have purchased your ticket, that ticket will be valid for 70 minutes after it is validated on the bus. The bus that one should take is named LAM Rosse. In between the central station and Piazza del Duomo there are about 7-8 stops. After 10-15 minutes, the stop that you need to take is “Torre”. The bus drops you off at the entrance of Piazza del Duomo where you can find many stores. Walk for 1 minute towards the end of these shops and you will see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Useful information

For us Google Maps worked perfectly as a guide to the leaning tower. It is the most accurate GPS, if you have accessibility to it. Many locals don’t know English, but they are used to tourist, so if you mention the words Tower of Pisa, they will know what you are talking about and can roughly guide you towards your location. Always be aware of pick-pocketers and never leave your bags alone. It is always preferred to leave luggage in a safe place (baggage check in at the central station) rather than losing a bag.
